Interested in visiting a sports museum in Florida? Sports fans (and even those who aren’t interested in baseball) will love this small but impressive museum located at FAU in Ft. Lauderdale. The Avron B. Fogelman Sports Museum is one of the largest collections of private sports memorabilia collected by one individual. The university is lucky to have had this large collection donated to them by former Kansas City Royals owner Avron Fogelman.
There is no admission charge, and it will take you around 45 minutes to walk around the museum and look at the baseball memorabilia and the history behind some of the items. There are also some football and basketball collections. One of the most interesting items – the original rules of baseball! Other items that you may want to check out while you’re there:
- Babe Ruth’s pinstripe uniform pants worn on his first day as a New York Yankee in 1921
- Joe DiMaggio’s 1936 rookie uniform
- 1985 Kansas City Royals World Series Trophy
- Football signed by the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins
The museum offers visitors a historical progression of the development of American sports. They are open Tues-Sat, but please check their website for updates to the visiting schedule. Want to see more in the area? Visit our page on the Fort Lauderdale & Hollywood beach area.
