For a short nature trail in Melbourne, visit Erna Nixon Park & Nature center! The main attraction at this park is the elevated boardwalk loop trail, which runs for about a 1/2 mile. You can walk it once, or loop it around again. It is an easy trail for the whole family including the little ones. Often you can spot wildlife along the nature trail as well.
To locate the park, use the address at the bottom of this post. Erna Nixon is off Evans Rd, just west of the Melbourne Square Mall. There is a small dirt lot parking area. Off to the right is the main pavilion with the nature center and the trail start. There is a restroom and water fountain located here as well.
Nature Center
After walking the 1/2 mile trail on the boardwalk, stop by and visit the nature center. It’s a small area opposite the bathrooms at the pavilion. In the nature center, check out some small live animals – snakes, turtles, and more. There is a lending library of textbooks if you want to learn about the animal’s habitats in the area.
Also keep an eye on their bulletin boards for events and classes offered at the park. During some times of the year, they offer evening events at the park. And in the summer, children’s camps!
We hope you’ll visit this nature trail in Melbourne the next time you are in the area. Visit the Erna Nixon Park website for more information. And, for more to do in the Melbourne and Palm Bay area, check out our list of budget friendly things to do in the area.
