Looking for a central Florida bike trail? Take a long or short bike ride on the Withlacoochee state trail. Located to the north and west of Orlando, this paved trail runs for 46 miles and is great for both professional road bikers and novice riders alike. This quaint trail takes you through an area that looks like “Old Florida” – large canopy trees and peaceful scenery along much of the trail (other than the parts that come close to the highway!) You can also make a quick stop at some of the cute small towns you will pass, such as Inverness, Floral City, and Hernando.
So bring out the whole family and enjoy this completely free central Florida bike trail! There are several parking stops you can choose from along the trail. We recommend parking at the Inverness Trailhead, the Hernando Trailhead, or the Citrus Springs Trailhead. All have restrooms and picnic tables. These in-town trailheads are going to be more populated that some of the others and busy, particularly on the weekends.
There is also a quieter trailhead located on the south end of the trail near Brooksville off Croom Rital Road – Link to GPS. This trailhead also has a picnic area and a restroom like the others. Riding north on this route provides you with a stretch of miles that is less populated.
I also located a detailed guide of the different routes on the Withlacoochee trail, if you are looking for more specific details. Check out the 100 Florida trails here with details and distance of each route.
